They are used to create a nasal wash-specific solution, either as isotonic or as hypertonic. If we dissolve an sachet in 250ml of lukewarm water (a typical glass of water), the solution becomes isotonic. For hypertonic solution add two sachets. Nasaline sachets contain sodium chloride (salt) and USC grade sodium bicarbonate (soda) in appropriate proportions, and are specifically for nasal washes (not the same as regular cooking iodide). The resulting solution has a specific pH, does not cause chemical burns in the nasal cavity, has a different odor and does not contain iodine, additives, or preservatives. Also, the use of sea water for nasal washes is not recommended. which may be contaminated with pollen or algae.
